Seahawks Finish Strong at Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Donovan Newby and Nolan Hodge combined for 31 points as four Seahawks scored in double figures in UNCW's 76-61 win over visiting Appalachian State on Saturday at the Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks improved to 5-2 with the win while the Mountaineers slid to 5-3 with the setback.

Both teams battled for the lead early before Hodge grabbed an offensive rebound and converted a layup for a 9-8 lead with 15:22 remaining in the first half. The Seahawks would never trail following that basket.

A pair of free throws by Bo Montgomery gave UNCW its largest lead of the day 22 points (58-36) with 13:27 to go in the game.

Joining Newby and Hodge in double-digits were Harlan Obioha and Khamari McGriff with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Montgomery and Sean Moore grabbed eight rebounds apiece for UNCW.

CJ Huntly poured in a game-high 17 points for the Mountaineers, who struggled from three-point range, finishing 2-for-17 (11.8%).

The Seahawks committed just four turnovers in the game, tied for the lowest under Head Coach Takayo Siddle.

UNCW visits longtime rival East Carolina on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start at Minges Coliseum.
