Zelaya Too Much For UMass Lowell

Ali Zelaya posted her third double-double and grabbed 19 rebounds

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico –Ali Zelaya's 16 and 19 rebounds lifted UNCW past UMass Lowell on Friday in a 56-40 win at the Puerto Rico Clasico.

The Seahawks finished a sweep of their two-game tournament appearance and improved to 6-3 with the win. UMass Lowell, meanwhile, remained winless at 0-7.

UNCW is off to its best start since 2010-11 when it won seven of its first nine games.

For Zelaya, it was her third double-double of the season and a career-high for rebounds. She also added a career-best five blocked shots.

Taylor Henderson added 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds of her own.

UNCW outscored UML, 23-2, at the foul line and committed just seven fouls on the day.

Zelaya scored seven second-quarter points as the Seahawks broke the game open by outscoring UML, 18-8, in the quarter.

Maddie Rice's eight points led the River Hawks.

The Seahawks host West Georgia on Dec. 5 at 11 a.m.
