Hollifield Leads UNCW To Fourth Straight Win

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Bolstered by a career-high 17 points from junior Kate Hollifield, UNCW extended its winning streak to four after cruising past Winthrop, 66-48, on Wednesday evening at Trask Coliseum.

With the win, the Seahawks moved to 4-2 while the Eagles slumped to 2-3 with their second straight setback. The four-game winning streak is the longest for the Seahawks since the 2018-19 season.

Hollifield's previous career-high was 14 as a sophomore at Belmont last season. Joining her in double-digit scoring were Evan Miller (14) and Jania Hall (10).

The Seahawks locked down defensively as they forced Winthrop into 20 turnovers and finished with a 28-2 advantage in points off turnovers.

Amourie Porter led the Eagles with 14 points off the bench.

UNCW carried a seven-point lead, 26-19, into halftime. Winthrop managed to convert just 3-of-13 field goal attempts in the second quarter as UNCW outscored the Eagles, 13-7.

The Seahawks conclude their homestand this weekend when they host Norfolk State at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans are ranked 10th in the Mid-Major College Basketball Poll.
