Seahawks Fall At Top-Ranked Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kansas – UNCW's Khamari McGriff and Noah Ross scored a combined 28 points in the Seahawks' 84-66 setback at No. 1 Kansas on Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Jayhawks (5-0) claimed the inaugural meeting over the Seahawks (3-1) with a strong second half that followed a tightly contested opening period.

McGriff led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field to go with seven rebounds. Ross narrowly missed his first career double-double with a 10-point, nine-rebound effort.

Kansas center Hunter Dickinson also fashioned a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds. The two-time All-American was joined in double figures by Dajuan Harris, Jr. (17), David Coit (13) and Zeke Mayo (10).

Kansas built a 32-24 lead with 6:19 to go in the first half, but UNCW responded with an 8-2 spurt to cut it down to two, 34-32, on a Ross fade-away jumper with 3:53.

The Jayhawks took a narrow 43-38 advantage into the intermission and then built a 59-42 lead it would not surrender with a 16-4 run to start the second half.

The Seahawks next host the 2024 Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic at Trask Coliseum over Thanksgiving. UNCW, along with Appalachian State, Colgate and Sam Houston, will participate in a multi-team, round-robin event from Nov. 27-30.
