UNCW Takes Reigning CAA Champs To Four Sets In Loss

NEWARK, Del. – A'siyah Magazine held match-high honors with 14 kills, but UNCW came up short in a four-set setback at defending Coastal Athletic Association champion Delaware on Sunday at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Blue Hens upped their records to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the league, moving them into a five-way tie for the conference lead. The Seahawks, meanwhile, slid to 3-10 and 0-6 in the CAA.

Delaware opened the match with wins in the first two sets, 25-12 and 25-21, before UNCW forced a fourth set with a 26-24 win in the third. The Blue Hens scored seven of the final points in the final set for a 25-20 win.

Magazine's 14 kills were a career-high and she finished with a .462 hitting average. Sydney Marshall crafted a double-double, her fifth of the season, with a season-high-tying 21 assists and 10 digs.

Led by Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss' 12 kills, UD placed three in double figures with Kirah Johnson and Savannah Seemans adding 10 apiece. Seemans added a match-high 21 digs for a double-double.

The Seahawks host conference rival Hampton on Oct.12-13, which will be Alumni Weekend and the celebration of 50 years of Seahawk volleyball.
