Volleyhawks Takes Series Opener From Hampton

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's A'siya Magazine and Grace Melnick combined for 19 kills as the Seahawks swept Coastal Athletic Association rival Hampton on Saturday at Hanover Hall.

UNCW pushed its overall record to 4-10 with the home win and upped its conference mark to 1-6. The Pirates, meanwhile, fell to 0-18 and 0-7 in the league.

Magazine paced the Seahawks with 12 kills while Melnick added seven kills and seven total blocks. UNCW hit .379 on the match while limiting Hampton to a modest .130 average.

Hampton's Madison Clark matched Magazine for match-high honors with 12 kills.

The Seahawks never trailed after the first set.

Led by Melnick, UNCW fashioned a 9-1 advantage in blocks.

The Seahawks and Pirates wrap up their series with a 2 p.m. start on Sunday.
