Volleyhawks Take 5-Setter From Tribe

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Emma Chappell's 13 kills helped UNCW rally for a five-set win over William & Mary on Sunday Coastal Athletic Association volleyball at Kaplan Arena.

For the Seahawks (6-13, 3-9), it was their first five-set match of the season. The Tribe (8-13, 4-8 CAA), meanwhile, dropped to 1-6 in those matches.

Down 2-1 entering the fourth set, UNCW rallied in the fourth with a 25-18 win to send it to a fifth set. The fourth set featured eight tied scores and five lead changes. The Seahawks broke a 17-all deadlock with a set-ending 8-1 run.

In the fifth, the Tribe held an 8-6 lead, but another run by the Seahawks, this one five points long, gave UNCW an 11-8 lead. W&M drew even at 13-all late, but Sarah Thompson's kills made it 14-13 Seahawks and a Tribe hitting error ended the set and match.

Joining Chappell in double-digit kills were A'siya Magazine and Grace Melnick with 11 apiece and Marnie Ursem with 10.

UNCW out-hit the Tribe, .253-.224.

The Seahawks visit Campbell next on Nov. 1-2.
