Ursem Sets Career-High Against Hofstra

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW freshman Marnie Ursem posted a career-high with 11 kills and senior Grace Melnick added 10, but UNCW fell in four sets to Hofstra on Sunday in Coastal Athletic Association volleyball action at Hanover Hall.

The Pride moved into a tie with Charleston for the conference lead at 9-1 and improved to 13-6 overall. The Seahawks dropped to 5-12 and 2-8.

Ursem, who was making her third start of the season, topped her previous high of seven kills against Hampton last weekend. She added two blocks.

Seahawk setter Noe Gaeta posted a double-double of 20 assists and a career-high 18 digs.

Yagmur Cinel led all players with 13 kills for Hofstra while Izadora Stedile and Emilly Nues added nine apiece. Stedile recorded a match-best 20 digs.

The Seahawks visit William & Mary on Oct. 26-27.
