Monmouth Edges Seahawks, 1-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.– Monmouth scored early in the second half on a goal from Loren Gehret as the Hawks upended visiting UNCW, 1-0, in Coastal Athletic Association women's soccer action on Thursday at Hess Field.

The Hawks remained unbeaten at a league-leading 5-0-2 and improved to  9-1-5 overall. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped to 2-3-3 in conference action and 4-7-5 on the season.

After battling to a scoreless stalemate in the first half, Monmouth grabbed the lead in the 47th minute. Gehret notched her fourth goal of the season off passes from Emily DeAlmeida and Maddison Perna at the 46:19 mark.

The Seahawks outshot Monmouth, 12-8 but failed to get anything past MU keeper Cassandra Coster, who chalked up her eighth shutout of the season.

Morgan Hobbs finished with three saves for the Seahawks.

UNCW wraps up its weekend swing with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Stony Brook.
