Steffan Rolls Past ACC Opponents At ITA Regional

CARY, N.C. – UNCW junior Lukas Steffen powered past two ACC opponents in the singles qualifying rounds of the ITA Carolina Regional on Thursday at the Cary Tennis Park.

Steffen, who is in his first season with the program, opened his tournament appearance with a straight-set win (6-2, 6-3) over Duke's Theo Winegar, who was a first-team All-Ivy selection at Columbia before transferring to Duke.

Steffen advanced to the round of 16 with another straight-set win (6-4, 6-4), this time over North Carolina freshman Nicholas Mangiapane.

The regional resumes on Friday with doubles play getting underway.
