NEWARK, Delaware – Delaware's Sam Donnellan fashioned a brace to turn back the UNCW men's soccer team with a 3-1 result in Friday night Coastal Athletic Association action at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
The Blue Hens improved to 6-4-2 with a 2-3 conference mark. The Seahawks fell to 3-5-4 with a 2-3 league record.
Donnellan's first goal in the 20th minute to the top right of the goal represented the lone score of the first half that featured 12 combined shots.
Just under five minutes into the second half, Delaware extended its lead on an unassisted goal by Marius Stenner. Stenner would assist Donnellan's second score of the night roughly two minutes later to put the Blue Hens ahead, 3-0.
UNCW fifth-year Zach Sauer fired in his first goal of the season in the 69th minute from outside the top of the 18-yard box on a corner kick from junior Ethan Newsome, played to Sauer by freshman Cesare D'Amico to put the Seahawks on the board.
UNCW next plays Wake Forest at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before hosting Olivia's Game vs. Stony Brook on Oct. 19.
