Miller Surpasses 20 Points For Second Straight Game

HEMPSTEAD, New York – Senior guard Evan Miller surpassed the 20-point plateau for the second straight game as the UNCW women's basketball team opened Coastal Athletic Association play with an 82-54 setback at Hofstra on Friday night at the Mack Sports Complex.

The Pride moved to 7-5 with a 1-0 league record. The Seahawks dipped to 2-10 with an 0-1 mark in the circuit.

Miller's 21 points led all scorers with her fourth double-digit scoring effort in her last four contests. Redshirt sophomore Taylor Henderson (15 points) fashioned her seventh career game in double figures while sophomore Mary Ferrito (10 points, nine rebounds) finished one board shy of her first career-double-double with career-highs in both categories.

Henderson and Miller both set career-highs with six steals apiece.

Hofstra guards Sorelle Ineza (17) and Emma Von Essen (15) combined for 32 points. Starting center Zyheima Swint contributed 10 points for the Pride.

UNCWs scored the game's first five points before Hofstra used an 11-0 run to flip the advantage at the 5:53 mark in the first quarter. A Henderson corner three-pointer with 4:26 to go in the opening period made it a one possession game at 13-10.

The Pride then scored 27 of the contest's next 32 points to build a 42-16 lead with under two minutes before halftime and carried a 42-18 edge into the intermission.

The Seahawks continue CAA play on Long Island at Stony Brook on Sunday at 1 p.m.
