UNCW Drops CAA Opener At Drexel

The Seahawks struggled from the field in a 78-63 loss at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Trazarien White had 19 points, but UNCW was unable to overcome 31% shooting from the field in a 78-63 loss at Drexel in Coastal Athletic Association action on Thursday at the Daskalakis Center.

Drexel raised its record to 9-6 on the season and 2-0 in the league with its second consecutive home win. The Seahawks, who have dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season, moved to 9-4 and 0-1 in the conference.

Luke House led all scorers on the night for the Dragons with a season-high 25 points. Amari Williams, the CAA preseason player of the year, added 17 points.

Donovan Newby added a season-high 16 and KJ Jenkins had 11 for the Seahawks.

Drexel held off the Seahawks late in the first half and carried a 36-34 lead into halftime. House paced the Dragons with 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers.

The Seahawks visit Towson on Jan. 6 for a 2 p.m. start at the TU Arena.

Notes: UNCW dropped to 16-5 in games following losses under the direction of Head Coach Takayo Siddle … White moved closer to 1,000 career points with 964 as a Seahawk … UNCW's 10 turnovers were the highest total since Dec. 2 at Kentucky when it was charged with 12 miscues.
