Phillips Heads Up UNCW Over Huskies

BOSTON, Mass. – Shykeim Phillips' game-high 17 points paced UNCW on Thursday in a convincing 77-54 win at Matthews Arena over Northeastern in Coastal Athletic Association men's basketball action.

The Seahawks, who trailed for just 45 seconds in the game, improved to 14-5 overall and 5-2 in the league with their fifth straight win. The Huskies, meanwhile, dropped to 8-12 and 3-4 in the CAA.

Phillips also held game-high honors with seven rebounds and six assists. Trazarien White and KJ Jenkins added 13 and 12 points, respectively, as the Seahawks shot 51.8% from the field.

Masai Troutman and Jared Turner had nine points apiece for Northeastern.

The Seahawks' 54 points allowed were a season-low against Division I opponents this season, eclipsing the previous low of 55 in a win at Florida Gulf Coast on Nov. 25.

Six different Seahawks knocked down three-pointers as UNCW was 8-for-16 in the half and carried a 38-21 lead into halftime. Jenkins and Hodge both buried a pair of threes for UNCW.
UNCW visits Stony Brook on Jan. 27 for a 4 p.m. start on CBS Sports Net.

Notes: The win was the fourth straight for the Seahawks in the series history and evened the record between the two programs at 17-all … White moved into a tie with Gary Cooper (1976-80) for 20th on UNCW's career scoring list with 1,091 points … The Seahawks finished with a 33-23 advantage on the boards and turned 13 NU turnovers into 17 points … Jenkins surpassed the 200 career three-pointers made mark with his second three made of the game … UNCW's 16 assists were a season-best against DI competition.
