WILMINGTON, N.C. – Behind 14 second half points from Shykeim Phillips and nine from Maleeck Harden-Hayes, UNCW knocked off visiting Monmouth, 69-56, in its Coastal Athletic Association home opener on Thursday at a sold-out Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks, who halted a three-game losing skid and improved to 4-0 at home, pushed their record to 10-5 overall and 1-2 in the CAA. Monmouth, who dropped its first conference game of the young season, slipped to 9-7 and 2-1 in the conference.

Phillips, who finished with a team-high 16 points, was 4-for-6 from the field in the second half, including making a pair of three-pointers. Harden-Hayes and Trazarien White added 14 points apiece for UNCW.

Monmouth's Xander Rice held game-high honors with 26 points and was the only Hawk to finish in double digits.

After seeing the Hawks close to within 45-44 with 9:45 remaining in the game, White ignited a 12-2 run for the Seahawks over the next 4:07. Harden-Hayes capped the run with a three-pointer for a 57-46 lead. Phillips had five points in the outburst.

UNCW built a 32-28 lead at the half behind eight points from White. The Seahawks scored the final four points of the half and forced Monmouth into three turnovers.
