Men's Soccer Powers Past Campbell, 4-0

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's soccer team erupted for a season-high 18 shots, including nine on goal, in a 4-0 win vs. Campbell in Coastal Athletic Association action on Saturday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks improved to 5-2-2 and are 1-1-1 in the CAA. The Camels fell to 1-2-4 overall with an 0-2-2 mark in the league.

UNCW limited Campbell to six shots, the sixth time the Seahawks have held an opponent to less than 10 attempts this season.

Sophomore Ethan Newsome started the scoring in the third minute with a header played over from junior Josef Hefele in the box after fifth year Omar Aboutaleb's strike hit the crossbar.

Senior Pep Casas registered his first goal of the season in the 23rd minute on a shot inside the 16-yard box after graduate student Gabe Mercer headed it over to give the Seahawks a 2-0 lead that they took into halftime.

Aboutaleb and Mercer would score within a two-minute period early in the second half to push the Seahawks ahead 4-0. Mercer's team-high fourth goal of the year was a long shot into the box from near the Seahawk bench.

Goalkeeper Jacob Randolph earned his fourth shutout in his last six games with four saves.

UNCW next travels to Long Island to play at Stony Brook on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m.
