Seahawks Record Third Straight Shutout Win

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – Forward Cannon Tootle scored his second goal of the season as the UNCW men's soccer team earned a 1-0 road victory at Queens on Tuesday night at the Queens Sports Complex.

The Seahawks improved to 4-1-1 with their third straight shutout victory. The Royals dipped to 1-3 this season.

The victory marks the 200th career UNCW win for Head Coach Aidan Heaney, who began coaching the Seahawks in 2001. Heaney has totaled 221 overall victories over 25 years as a Division I Head Coach, including the last 23 seasons at UNCW.

Heaney's milestone win came courtesy of Tootle's game-winner in the 54th minute. Sophomore Ethan Newsome fired a shot that Queens goalkeeper Javier Cuervo blocked. Newsome gathered the rebound and found Tootle, who finished to put the Seahawks ahead 1-0.

The two teams combined for 15 shots, including 10 in the second half. The Seahawks held a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Fifth year goalkeeper Jacob Randolph recorded his third straight clean sheet after he was named Coastal Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

UNCW resumes CAA play at the College of Charleston at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
