Seahawks, Cougars Play to 1-1 Draw

MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – Junior Josef Hefele's equalizer in the 64th minute helped UNCW earn a 1-1 draw at the College of Charleston in Coastal Athletic Association men's soccer action at Ralph Lundy Field on Saturday night.

The Seahawks (4-1-2, 0-1-1 CAA) ran their unbeaten streak to four games. The Cougars (2-0-4, 1-0-2 CAA) remained unbeaten on the year with their second straight tie.

UNCW registered 15 shots, including 10 in the second half, and held Charleston to a season-low five shot attempts. The Seahawks also held a 10-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Hefele's first goal of the season came off a corner kick by fifth year Omar Aboutaleb, who serviced the ball inside the six-yard box where Hefele corralled it and booted it in ahead of diving Cougars goalkeeper Olly Marshall to make it 1-1.

Charleston took the lead 16 minutes into the contest on Leonardo D'Ambrosio's second goal of the year. The junior midfielder was assisted by freshman Peter Thomas.

UNCW continues play on Tuesday night at North Carolina at 7 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
