Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at #9 Clemson

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW sophomore Ethan Newsome's goal in the 51st minute helped the Seahawks earn a 1-1 draw vs. ninth-ranked Clemson in Monday night men's soccer action at Historic Riggs Field.

The Seahawks stand 1-0-1 to start the year while the Tigers are 0-1-1 through the first week of play.

Newsome's equalizer found the bottom-right of the net, just beyond Clemson goalkeeper Joseph Andema. Jack Clarkson, a sophomore, assisted Newsome's first goal of the season.

UNCW held the Tigers scoreless over the final 76 minutes of play after Clemson's Mohamed Seye netted the game's first goal 14 minutes into the match, which was delayed one hour due to lightning.

Seahawk goalkeeper Jacob Randolph collected three saves against four shots on goal.

UNCW will next host Northeastern to open Coastal Athletic Association play on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m.

The Seahawks will honor Olivia Knighton, the late daughter of UNCW icon Brad Knighton, at the game. For more information about Olivia's Game, click here.
