Seahawks Drop Season Opener at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, South Carolina – Coastal Carolina's Emily Petring converted a penalty kick goal in the 69th minute to hand the UNCW women's soccer team a 1-0 road setback at the Coastal Carolina Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.

The Chanticleers improved to 1-0 to start the 2023 season. The Seahawks' record dipped to 0-1.

UNCW outshot the Coastal, 12-6, in the season opener, including a 7-3 shot advantage after halftime. Seven of the Seahawks' shots were on target.

The two teal rivals were scoreless for nearly 70 minutes when a UNCW foul inside the penalty box set up Petring's game-winning goal that found the back-right of the net.

The Seahawks return home on Sunday to host VCU at 1 p.m.
