Sports Marketing Earns Two National Awards

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's Sports Marketing office has been rewarded for its promotional and membership strategies during the 2022-23 academic year. The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) awarded the marketing team two "Best of" Awards in mid-June.

Seahawk Sports Marketing received Gold in the Membership Drives category for the student-driven "Hawks to the Hill" campaign targeted at membership for the student engagement app, Team Teal. The marketing staff also took home a Bronze in Branded Static Collateral for the "Toughness Chain T-Shirt" giveaway prior to the UNCW men's basketball game vs. North Carolina A&T on Feb. 2.
 
"Hawks to the Hill" allowed UNCW students to enter a sweepstake through Team Teal, with the winners earning a ticket and charter bus ride to the Seahawks' season opener vs. top-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. To further increase attendance at UNCW's home exhibition opener, winners of the campaign were announced at halftime of the Seahawks' preseason contest vs. Emory & Henry.
 
"Hawks to the Hill" was a cornerstone membership driver that increased app downloads and membership by more than 25 percent. Heading into 2023-24, 5,100 students have Team Teal downloaded. UNCW Sports Marketing saw the highest membership increase and most points redeemed with over 650 prizes ordered in seven months.
 
The Toughness Chain T-Shirt was a replica design of the Toughness Chain awarded by Head Coach Takayo Siddle to a Seahawk men's basketball player after each victory. The unique design directly connected fans to the mission of rewarding toughness and empowering students to create a challenging atmosphere for opponents.
 
The marketing staff distributed 500 t-shirts within 30 minutes of the gate opening. The promotion saw 651 students pack the bleachers behind team benches to create an electric environment in the Seahawks' dominant 87-63 victory over the Aggies.
