Seahawks Record Third Shutout of Season

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – The UNCW women's team earned a split of its weekend trip to Virginia with a 7-0 shutout of Colonial Athletic Association foe Towson early Sunday at William & Mary's McCormack-Nagelson Tennis Center.
 
The Seahawks, who lost to the Tribe on Saturday, raised their record to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the CAA with the neutral site win. The Tigers dropped their fifth straight match and plummeted to 4-12 and 1-7.
 
UNCW claimed the doubles point after sweeping the two early matches. The No. 2 tandem of Anna Daniels and Zoe Huffman clinched the point with a 6-2 victory vs. Towson's Sarah Pospischill and Sania Suchinsky.
 
The Seahawks then rolled in singles play to put the match away early and move to 13-1 lifetime vs. the Tigers. Graduate student Lauren Gish increased the score to 2-0 by crushing Suchinsky, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles and freshman Eda Arli's 6-2, 6-1, decision over Towson's Olivia Rothfeld at No. 2 singles hiked the margin to 3-0.
 
Huffman then clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (3) triumph against Pospischill at the top of the lineup. It was Huffman's third clincher of the year.
 
The Seahawks return to North Carolina to close out the regular season. UNCW entertains Campbell on Friday, Apr. 14, at 2 p.m. and wraps up the campaign with a 1 p.m. match vs. Charleston on Saturday, Apr. 15.
