Seahawk Netters Cruise Past Camels, 6-1

WILMINGTON, N.C.  – Senior Zoe Huffman clinched the match for the fourth time and graduate student Lauren Gish picked up her team-best 12th singles victory to help the UNCW women's tennis team cruise past state rival Campbell, 6-1, on Friday at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Seahawks improved to 10-7 with their fourth victory in the last five outings. The Seahawks wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match vs. Colonial Athletic Association rival Charleston.
 
The Camels lost for the fourth time in five matches and fell to 6-11, including 2-6 on the road this spring.
 
After splitting the first two doubles matches off the court, the Seahawks notched the early point when the No. 2 tandem of Huffman and Anna Daniels trimmed CU's Tamsin Hart and Veronika Prospalova, 6-3.
 
The Seahawks then reeled off four consecutive singles victories to put the match away. Huffman routed Hart, 6-1, 6-2, at the top of the lineup for the clincher.
 
Gish, meanwhile, improved to 12-4 in singles this season for the Seahawks. The Mooresville, N.C., product is 11-4 at the No. 4 position.
 
Six seniors – Daniels, Huffman, Gish, Brinley Bell, Sarah Merrill and Lauren Robbins - will be honored during a pre-match ceremony on Saturday at 12:55 p.m.
