Elon Rallies Past UNCW, 7-5

ELON, North Carolina – Elon scored multiple runs in three straight innings to rally past UNCW, 7-5, in Sunday's Colonial Athletic Association softball rubber match at Hunt Softball Park.

The Phoenix (17-21, 10-4 CAA) earned the series win over the Seahawks (18-22, 12-6 CAA) after the in-state foes split a doubleheader on Saturday.

Eight different Seahawks collected a hit, including senior right fielder Morgan Britt, who drove in two runs on a first-inning double and then scored when Elon's Reagan Hartley misplayed the ball in right field.

Phoenix right-hander Isley Duggins (4-8) earned the win with three solid innings in relief of starter Meredith Wells, in which she yielded one unearned run.

Seahawks righty Kara Hammock (9-7) was tagged with the loss in two relief innings. Hammock surrendered five runs, only two of which were earned.

Britt's two-run double and score on the error gave UNCW an early 3-0 after the first inning. A fourth inning Logan Bjorson RBI single to score Janel Gamache, who reached on an error, added another run to make it 4-0.

Elon got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a Kaitlyn Wells two-run home run to cut the deficit in half. The Phoenix would even the game at 4-all one inning later on a Claudia Penny RBI double.

Infielders Megan Grant and Allee Seering completed the Elon comeback in the bottom of the sixth when both singled to drive in three more runs.

UNCW is idle until they travel to Campbell for a mid-week doubleheader on Apr. 26.
