No. 74 Jaguars Deal Seahawks First Home Loss

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Visiting No. 74 South Alabama won the doubles point and tacked on a trio of singles victories to snap UNCW's 10-game home winning streak, 4-0, early Sunday at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Jaguars of the Sun Belt Conference won their fifth in a row to improve to 15-7 this spring, including 5-6 on the road.
 
UNCW stands 13-7 overall and lost for only the second time in the last 11 matches. It was the fourth time the Seahawks have been shut out this season.
 
USA picked up the critical doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The No. 2 tandem of Sebastien Collard and Martin Bugai moved to 8-0 on the year after edging UNCW's Drew Broadstreet and Trey Mallory, 6-4, to clinch the point.
 
The Jaguars then won the first three matches off the court in singles for the shutout. No. 1 Sebastien Collard got things going with a 6-3, 6-3, straight set victory against UNCW junior Reece Falck and Javier Montoya followed with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 decision at No. 6 singles vs. Seahawk freshman Alex de Gabriele.
 
USA, which evened its record vs. UNCW at 2-all, clinched the match at No. 5 singles when Martin Bugaj defeated Davide Innocenti, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
 
The Seahawks wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday, Apr. 22, with a 1 p.m. Senior Day match vs. CAA foe Charleston.
