Seahawks Fall to Cougars in Regular Season Finale

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Visiting Charleston notched the early doubles point and claimed five of the six singles matches to down UNCW, 6-1, in the Colonial Athletic Association women's tennis regular season finale for both teams on Saturday at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Cougars raised their record to 16-5 overall and 2-0 in the CAA with their fourth straight victory.
 
The Seahawks concluded the regular campaign with a 10-8 record and 2-3 ledger in the conference.
 
On a day when the Seahawks recognized seniors Brinley Bell, Anna Daniels, Lauren Gish, Zoe Huffman, Sarah Merrill and Lauren Robbins, the Cougars spoiled the party by rallying from behind in the doubles point and dominating singles play for the CAA win.
 
The Cougars claimed the doubles point with a victory at the No. 2 position. Ella Faessier and Nicole Stephens improved to 11-3 in doubles this season with a 6-4 triumph against UNCW's Anna Daniels and Zoe Huffman.
 
Charleston, 3-2 away from home, won the first two matches off the court in singles before Gish registered a 6-4, 6-2, decision against Faessier. Gish extended her record to a team-best 13-4 record in singles this spring.
 
The Seahawks begin final preparations of the CAA Women's Tennis Championships next weekend (Apr. 20-23, 2023) in Williamsburg, Va.
