Series Evened As TCU Takes Second Game

FT. WORTH, Texas – Freshman starter Kole Klecker tossed six strong innings while #23 TCU evened the weekend series against visiting UNCW with a 17-5 win over the Seahawks on Saturday at Lupton Field.

With the win, the Horned Frogs evened the series and improved to 22-13 on the season. UNCW, meanwhile, dropped to 20-13 with the road loss.

Klecker (7-2) earned his fourth consecutive win, going x innings and limiting UNCW to two runs on one hit, a home run by Wills.

Tre Richardson led the top of the order with three hits and he scored twice. The 1-4 batters in the TCU lineup combined to go 9-for-17 with 11 runs scored and seven knocked in. Brayden Taylor, the preseason Big-12 Player of the Year, was 2-for-3, scored four times and belted his team-leading 11th homer of the season.

Kevin Pitarra had two hits and two runs batted in while Brock Wills and Aidan Evans both homered. For Wills, it was his second of the season while Evans hit his first collegiate roundtripper.

Zane Taylor took the loss to dip to 3-2 on the season. Taylor was touched for five runs on five hits and a walk in four innings of work. He allowed a pair of two-run home runs.

The series wraps up with a 1 p.m. CST start time on Sunday.

How it happened: TCU jumped on Taylor early, scoring three in the bottom of the first. Richardson tripled to leftcenter and he scored one batter later on a single by Taylor. Cole Fontenell followed with a two-run shot to center, his ninth of the season.
