Seahawks Fall To WCU In Women's Tennis

ORLANDO, Florida – Western Carolina handed the UNCW women's tennis team its second loss in as many days, 4-1, early Thursday at the USTA National Campus.

The Seahawks, playing back-to-back matches at the sprawling complex, stand 6-4 this spring. The Catamounts, who have won five of their last six matches, raised their record to 10-5.

WCU grabbed a 1-0 advantage after winning the deciding match in doubles play at the No. 2 position. Isabella Sambola and Chloe Schwarz outlasted UNCW's Zoe Huffman and Anna Daniels, 7-6 (4), to nail down the early point.

Daniels, a senior from Matthews, N.C., got some revenge in singles play, defeating WCU's Madison Schwarz, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3 singles, but the Catamounts registered three other singles wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 to win the match.

The Seahawks, 5-0 at home this spring, return to North Carolina to entertain Virginia Tech on Sunday (Mar. 12) in an 11 a.m. match at the UNCW Courts.
