Seahawks Stay Perfect at Home

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team won its eighth consecutive home match without a loss on Tuesday by rallying past Colonial Athletic Association rival Delaware, 4-2, at the UNCW courts.
 
The Seahawks improved to 9-5 overall with their fifth straight victory. Coach Mait DuBois and his club also wrapped up their five-match homestand with an unblemished record.
 
Delaware stands 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the league after kicking off the first of three matches in as many days in North Carolina. The Blue Hens travel up to Elon and North Carolina A&T to finish the trip.
 
The Blue Hens, 7-4 on the road, got off to a quick start and jumped ahead, 1-0, after winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
 
UNCW stormed back in singles play, however, taking four matches to win its conference debut. Freshman Alex de Gabriele evened the match with a 6-0, 6-3, pounding of UD's Alexandre Gluck at No. 6 singles before UD's Luis Molina regained the lead, 2-1, for the Blue Hens with a 6-2, 6-3, decision over UNCW's Reece Falck at the No. 2 position.
 
But UNCW's Gabe Hurtado, Harold Huens and Davide Innocenti closed out the match with successive victories to keep the train rolling. Innocenti served up his second clincher of the season with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, come-from-behind victory at No. 5 singles against UD's Tobey Lock.
 
The Seahawks next travel up to Buies Creek, N.C., on Thursday for a 2 p.m. match at future CAA member Campbell.
