Seahawks Run Winning Streak To Four Matches

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team turned in one of its best performances of the season in a 7-0 romp over Ivy League member Dartmouth early Friday at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Seahawks, who won their fourth straight match, improved to 8-5 overall and remained unbeaten at home with an unblemished 7-0 ledger on their home courts. Dartmouth dropped to 10-8 after losing its fifth in a row and the back end of a North Carolina road trip to Elon and UNCW.
 
The Seahawks grabbed a quick 1-0 advantage after claiming the doubles point for the seventh time this season. The No. 1 team of Reece Falck and Bekhzod Rasamatov trimmed Dartmouth's Waleed Qadir and Miles Groom, 6-4, to clinch the point.
 
Sophomore Harry Huens upped the score to 2-0 in just 1:18 with a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Groom at No. 2 singles and rookie Alex De Gabriele raised the score to 3-0 by outlasting Dartmouth's Logan Chang, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
 
UNCW clinched the match and sank the Big Green to 1-5 on the road when No. 4 player Gabe Hurtado defeated Qadir, 7-5, 7-6 (3). It was the second straight clincher for Hurtado. It was the team's third shutout of the campaign.
 
The Seahawks continue a five-match home stand on Tuesday, Mar. 28, with a 2 p.m. match vs. Colonial Athletic Association foe Delaware at the UNCW courts. UNCW has not lost since a 4-3 defeat at South Florida on Mar. 11 in Tampa.
