UNCW Drops 7-1 Verdict to ECU

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – East Carolina used a six-run sixth inning to down the UNCW softball team 7-1 on a cloudy Wednesday evening at Boseman Field.

The Pirates jumped their record to 21-9 with their second win of the season against the Seahawks, who dipped to 9-17 overall.

ECU left-hander Addy Bullis (12-3) earned the win while limiting UNCW to one hit in five scoreless innings. The southpaw also struck out four and walked a pair.

The Seahawks' Emily Winstead (1-3) was tagged with the loss despite tossing 4.1 innings of one-run ball to go with four strikeouts in 89 pitches.

The Pirates produced six of their eight hits in the big sixth inning, including a one-out grand slam off the bat of second baseman Logan Sutton, her fourth of 2023, which stretched the lead to 6-0.

UNCW, who collected four hits, got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run by shortstop Mary Sobataka, her second of the season.

ECU plated the game's first run of the game in the third courtesy of a pair of two-out hits by Taudrea Sinnie and Taylor Edwards.

The Seahawks return to Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend when it hosts conference newcomer North Carolina A&T for a three-game set on Saturday and Sunday.
