Seahawks Collect Second Shutout In Men's Tennis

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team won its second in a row by sweeping past visiting Youngstown State, 4-0, in a St. Patrick's Day match on Friday at the UNCW courts.
 
The Seahawks, 6-5, remained unbeaten at home in five outings and moved to 2-0 in this week's Battle at the Beach round robin event. UNCW defeated Illinois State, 4-1, on Wednesday in the tournament opener.
 
YSU, 6-8, split a pair of matches during a busy day on Friday. The Penguins of the Horizon League edged Illinois State, 4-3, earlier before taking on the Seahawks.
 
Playing in windy conditions, UNCW picked up the critical doubles point when No. 69 Reece Falck and Bekhzod Rasamatov teamed up to defeat YSU's Nathan Favier and Clement Mainguy, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles. It was UNCW's fifth doubles point of the season.
 
The Seahawks maintained the momentum in singles. No. 118 Falck, playing No. 1, trounced Laurentiu Mandocescu, 6-0, 6-2, to extend the lead to 2-0 and freshman Alex DeGabrielle made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2, pounding of YSU's Harry Fouzas. Sophomore Harold Huens clinched the match at No. 2 singles by rolling past Mainguy, 6-1, 6-4, for his team-leading eighth victory of the season.
 
The Seahawks conclude the Battle at the Beach on Monday, Mar. 20, with a 2 p.m. match vs. DePaul at the UNCW courts
