Gross Resets Career-High vs. North Carolina A&T

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A 15-2 fourth-quarter run by North Carolina A&T pushed the Aggies past UNCW 66-56 in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at Trask Coliseum.

The Aggies (15-7, 9-2 CAA) remain atop the conference standings alongside Drexel. The Seahawks (4-17, 1-9 CAA) will embark on a two-game road swing to Delaware and Towson next weekend.

Five N.C. A&T players reached double figures led by junior guard D'Mya Tucker's 14 points. Redshirt freshman center Chaniya Clark, junior guard Maleia Bracone and graduate center Jazmin Harris each contributed 11 markers. Senior guard Nyah Willis completed the scoring quintet with 10 points.

Graduate guard Carrie Gross reset her career-high for the second time in four games with 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting. The 5-11 Gross drained four three-pointers, matching her career-high from beyond the arc.

Sophomore guard Jayde Gamble (14 points) extended her double-digit scoring streak to five straight games.

A Gross triple 16 seconds into the fourth quarter made it a one-possession game in favor of the Aggies, 47-45. N.C. A&T responded with the next seven points, including six by Tucker, to take a 54-45 lead with 7:13 left in the game.

After a Gross jumper, Bracone drained back-to-back three-pointers and Clark followed with a layup to extend the Aggies' advantage to a game-high 15 (62-47) with 5:02 to play.

N.C. A&T took an early 15-4 lead but the Seahawks responded with 20 of the game's next 24 points, including an 11-0 spurt courtesy of trifectas by Evan Miller, Mingaile Urmuleviciute and Gross that flipped the score towards UNCW 24-19 with 5:22 before halftime.

The Aggies countered with 11 of the next 12 points before Gross evened the game 30-all on a fastbreak jumper with 1:13 to go. Tucker, however, converted an old-fashioned three-point play to provide N.C. A&T with a 33-30 cushion at the intermission.
