Women's Tennis Team Routs UNCG, 7-0

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's tennis team registered its second shutout of the young season by cruising past state rival UNCG, 7-0, early Thursday at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Seahawks increased their record to 4-1 and 3-0 at home with the easy victory. The Spartans fell to 3-8 and 0-6 in road matches.
 
In breezy conditions on National Tennis Day, the Seahawks dropped the first match in doubles, but bounced back at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to nail down the early point. The No. 2 tandem of Zoe Huffman and Anna Daniels trimmed UNCG's Juliana Craft and Alexandra Dodashev, 6-3, in the deciding match.
 
UNCW maintained the momentum in singles, winning the first three matches off the court to put the match away. Freshman Eda Arli won at No. 2 singles and another newcomer, Gabbie Glickstein, followed suit at the No. 6 position. Graduate student Lauren Gish then served up the clincher, defeating Dodashev, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4 singles.
 
The Seahawks are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 25) when they travel to the Queen City to take on Charlotte in a 10 a.m. match.
