Lady Pirates Rally Past Seahawks on Friday

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Hampton forward Nylah Young scored 12 of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter as the Lady Pirates rallied to hand the UNCW women's basketball team a 63-53 setback on Friday night at Trask Coliseum.

The Lady Pirates improved to 9-14 overall and are 6-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Seahawks dipped to 4-20 with a 1-12 mark in the conference.

Freshman forward McCall King contributed a career-high 12 points in her second career start to pace UNCW, who shot 41.5 percent (17-of-41) from the field. Junior guard Evan Miller added 10 points for her third straight double-digit scoring effort.

Young was joined in double figures by Hampton teammates junior forward Dlayla Chakolis (14) and sophomore guard Jermany Mapp (10).

UNCW carried a 27-20 advantage into halftime and opened the third quarter with a fastbreak layup by King.

The Lady Pirates then streaked to a 12-0 run that flipped the score in their favor, 32-29, with 6:00 left in the third period and held the lead the rest of the way to sweep the season series between the two teams.

The Seahawks remain at Trask Coliseum on Sunday, where they will tip-off against Stony Brook at 2 p.m.
