Miller Leads Four Seahawks in Double Figures

NORFOLK, Virginia – Senior guard Evan Miller (20 points) paced four Seahawks in double figures scoring as the UNCW women's basketball team closed out non-conference play with a 96-55 setback at Norfolk State on Thursday afternoon at Echols Hall.

The Spartans improved to 9-4 while the Seahawks sit at 2-9 ahead of Coastal Athletic Association play next weekend.

Miller achieved her seventh double-digit scoring effort this season. Sophomore McCall King added a season-high 11 points and sophomore Mary Ferrito scored a career-best 10 points. Freshman Kylah Silver contributed 10.

NSU guard Diamond Johnson scored 13 points in each half to lead all scorers with 26 points. Juniors Kierra Wheeler (20) and Makoye Diaware (13) along with freshmen Anjanae Richardson (11) and Skye Robinson (10) joined Johnson with over 10 points.

A Miller three-pointer with 57 seconds to go in the first quarter made it 18-15 in favor of the Spartans. NSU then responded with a three by Richardson and outscored UNCW 29-10 in the second quarter to carry a 50-25 advantage into halftime.

UNCW opens CAA play with a two-game road swing on Long Island beginning at Hofstra on Jan. 5.
