Phillips Leads Seahawks To Road Win

UNCW pushes winning streak to three on Saturday

STATESBORO, Ga. – UNCW's Shykeim Phillips scored 18 of his team-high 20 points in the second half as UNCW clipped Georgia Southern, 82-77, in men's college basketball action Saturday at Hanner Fieldhouse.

The Seahawks, winners of their last three outings, improved to 8-2 with their fourth road win of the season while the Eagles slumped to 0-11.

Phillips finished with game-highs of seven rebounds and five assists in addition to his 20 points. He knocked down 8-of-12 from the field and all four free throw attempts. Phillips had 12 points in the final four minutes of the game.

Phillips' jumper on the right wing broke a 66-all deadlock with 3:12 left in the game.

Maleeck Harden-Hayes had 13points, KJ Jenkins added 12 points while Nick Farrar and Trazarien White chipped in 10 points apiece.

Georgia Southern's Trey Moore led all scorers with a career-high tying 30 points.

Both teams finished with 10 three-pointers made on the afternoon.

Led by 10 points from Farrar and eight from Harden-Hayes, the Seahawks fought through an eight-minute drought to carry a 34-29 lead into halftime.

The Seahawks continue their road stretch on Dec. 21 with a 7 p.m. start at Marshall.

Notes: UNCW's win today was its first at Hanner Fieldhouse since 1980 … The Seahawks converted nine Eagle turnovers for 13 points … The Seahawk bench, led by Jenkins' 12, outscored GSU, 35-24 … On Friday, UNCW's managers topped Georgia Southern's staff, 51-50 … White drew 10 fouls for the third time this season.
