Men's Soccer Announces Signings For 2024

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW head men's soccer coach Aidan Heaney has announced the additions of Osei Gyamfi and Kwaku Bawa to play for the Seahawks beginning in the 2024 season.

"Osei and Bawa have been attending the prestigious Montverde Academy for the past two and a half years, studying and playing for their SIMA team," said Heaney. "Both are playing and competing every day with some talented players, and both are top national prospects. We are excited to add these two young men to our program!

Both played at Montverde Academy in the final seasons of prep soccer and competed for SIMA.

"Osei and Bawa will bring a passion for the game to our program, and we are delighted they will start another leg of their academic and athletic journeys with us here at UNCW.

Gyamfi, who hails from Kumasi, Ghana, earned SIMA Best Sports Performance in 2023 after scoring four goals and handing out three assists.

Osei is a talented central midfielder who will add creativity and mobility to our team. He can play as a deep-lying midfielder or in a box-to-box role. He has very good technical qualities and excellent physical capacity. Osei is quick to close opponents down, win the ball, and transition forward. He is also good in tight spaces and dealing with pressure.

Bawa, a native of Accra, Ghana, comes to the Port City after attending Montverde Academy, where he notched a goal and an assist last season.

"Bawa is an electric wide player, very quick, with excellent stamina to get up and down the flank. He is technically strong, enjoys 1v1 duels, and is a good individual defender with tremendous recovery speed. He can play as a left back or wide midfielder and will be tough for opponents when we have the ball and when we don't. He plays with a ton of personality!"
