Seahawks Drop 73-59 Verdict vs. Chanticleers

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Coastal Carolina opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run and never looked back to hand UNCW a 73-59 setback in women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at Trask Coliseum.

The Chanticleers (4-2) extended their winning streak to four games while the Seahawks fell to 1-4 on the season.

Coastal forward Makaila Cange paced the visitors with 24 points on a perfect 11-of-11 shooting. Cange was joined in double figures by guard Arin Freeman with 15 points.

UNCW freshman guard Taylor Henderson established a new career-high with 26 points. The Charlotte, N.C., native added six rebounds and four steals.

Center Lexi Jackson sank a pair of free throws to cut Coastal's lead to 17-10 with 2:06 left in the first period.

The Chanticleers then made the last basket of the opening quarter and scored the first 10 points of the second period to go up 29-10 with 5:13 before halftime and carried a 34-16 advantage at the intermission.

The Seahawks opened the third period on a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to eight, 38-30, with five minutes left in the period, but Coastal kept UNCW at bay with the game's next six points to push the lead back to double-digits, 44-30.

UNCW begins a four-game road stretch on Wednesday at Winthrop. The Seahawks will play seven of their next eight games away from Trask Coliseum with the lone home game occurring vs. NC Central on Dec. 21.
