App State Hands UNCW First Loss

FT. MYERS, Fla. – Appalachian State shot 70% from the field in the second half, and five players finished in double digits as the Mountaineers knocked off UNCW, 86-56, on Tuesday at the Ft. Myers Tip-Off at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

App State improved to 2-2 with the win while the Seahawks suffered their first loss of the season and dropped to 4-1.

Tre'von Spillers paced the Mountaineers with 15 points, coming on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. Justin Abson grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds as ASU finished with a 43-28 advantage on the boards.

Trazarien White led the Seahawks with 15 points and KJ Jenkins added 12.

UNCW held a 34-33 lead in the first thanks to a pair of runs in the final 10 minutes. White had 11 points in the first half thanks to a perfect 7-for-7 effort at the free throw line.

The Seahawks cap their trip to the Sunshine State with a 4:30 p.m. start at Florida Gulf Coast on Nov. 25.
