WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Western Carolina scored the game's final seven points to push past the UNCW women's basketball team, 54-43, at the annual Seahawks Tomorrow education game at Trask Coliseum early Thursday.

The Catamounts moved to 2-2 this season ahead of a Saturday contest at Campbell. The Seahawks dropped to 1-2 as they turn their attention to Presbyterian on Nov. 22 at home.

WCU's Lonasia Brewer delivered a game-high 16 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Senior guards Audrey Meyers (14 points) and Zanoria Cruz (11 points) both surpassed double figures scoring for the Catamounts, who shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51).

UNCW, who connected on 26.7 percent (16-of-60) of its shots, was led in scoring by freshman guard Kylah Silver with nine points. Senior center Lexi Jackson added a season-high 10 rebounds.

The Seahawks scored five straight points midway through the fourth quarter to trim the deficit to 47-43 with 2:55 remaining. WCU then sank seven free throws over the final 2:31 of the contest to swell its lead to double-digits, 54-43.

UNCW hosted 14 schools from a record six different surrounding counties (Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Onslow and Pender) and just over 1,800 elementary school-aged kids for the Seahawks Tomorrow education game.
