Seahawks Shoot The Lights Out In Win

UNCW matched its highest scoring output since 2020 with 116 points

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Trazarien White's game-high 22 points highlighted a blistering offense that shot 62% from the field and made 20 three-pointers as UNCW sprinted past visiting Columbia International, 116-80, on Tuesday at Trask Coliseum.

UNCW improved to 3-0 on the round season with the home victory. For the Rams, 0-2 in exhibition games, having also lost to Presbyterian earlier this month.

White was one of six Seahawks in double-digit scoring on the night. He was 8-of-13 from the field, made a pair of triples, and went 4-of-7 from the foul line.

Joining White in double-figures was Nick Farrar with 16 points on 7-of-7 shooting in 11 minutes of playing time.

Shykeim Phillips, who surpassed the 1,000 career point plateau during the game, finished with 15 points, a career-best seven assists, and four steals.

Also finishing in double figures were KJ Jenkins with 15 points while tying his career high of five threes made, Donovan Newby added 14 points and Maleeck Harden-Hayes chipped in 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.

DiAnthony Heathcock led the Rams with 16 points and Christian Howard added 10. CIU shot 57.7% from the field, making 33-of-57 field goal attempts.

UNCW built a 56-37 lead at the intermission thanks to a 19-2 over the final 4:57 to close out the first half. White had 13 points in the half to lead all scorers.

The Seahawks next head to the Ft. Myers Tip-Off where they'll take on Murray State (Nov. 20) and Appalachian State (Nov. 21) at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

Notes: UNCW trailed for 2:07 in the first half, its longest deficit of the season … The Seahawks last opened a season with three straight wins was 2016-17 … On a free throw at 16:01, Phillips knocked down a free throw for his 1,000th career point, becoming the 28th Seahawk to hit that milestone … Six Seahawks finished in double-digits in scoring for the second time this season … UNCW's bench finished with 53 points and is averaging 45.3 points per game.
