Nothing "Shy" About it!

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - In Tuesday night's win against Columbia International, Shykeim Phillips reached a career milestone, scoring his 1,000th career point in a UNCW Uniform.

"It's a dream come true. This is one of the schools I wanted to play for growing up. Always watching UNCW basketball," said Phillips on scoring all 1,000 as a Seahawk. "To be recognized is a true blessing."

The 15 points scored tonight by the Winterville, N.C., native made him the 28th Seahawk to accomplish the feat, joining other UNCW greats, including Phillips' former teammates Jaylen Sims and Mike Okauru.

"He is everything I want all my players to be about and all the incoming recruits to be about," said Head Coach Takayo Siddle of Phillips, "He's never had a bad day, and he's been through so much in his career, sick, injured, whatever it is he's always smiling, always giving positive energy off to his teammates. He shows up to work every single day; he's obsessed with the process; he's a coachable kid; I can't say enough good things about him. I'm going to miss him when he's gone, but we're going to enjoy him while he's here."

Phillips has been vital to UNCW's success in his five years. Plenty of the 6-2 guard's scoring outbursts have been the deciding factor, such as his 11-point overtime period against William & Mary in 2022 and in 2021 when he had an 8-point overtime at High Point, both resulting in Seahawk victories.

Tonight provided a reminder of the special talent that graces the Trask Coliseum floor in Phillips as well as provides a glimpse of the success the Seahawks look to achieve.
