WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's Issy Bryant scored a goal 23 seconds into the match to turn back Stony Brook 1-0 in Coastal Athletic Association women's soccer action on Thursday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Seahawks (4-6-2, 3-2-2 CAA) achieved their fourth shutout in their last six games. The Seawolves (4-5-4, 2-4-2 CAA) were shut out for the fourth time this season.
Stony Brook outshot UNCW 11-6 with both teams collecting four shots on goal.
Bryant's second goal of the season came off a perfectly placed cross by junior Kayla Burroughs from the left side, allowing Bryant to boot in the ball over the head of Seawolves keeper Nicolette Pasquarella.
Graduate goalkeeper Hanna Wise recorded four saves, but none bigger than a diving effort with under a minute to go. The Westlake, Village, Calif., native dove to her left to push a Gabrielle Cote would-be equalizer off the post and preserve the shutout and win for the Seahawks.
UNCW next hits the road to play at Towson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
