Seahawks, Blue Hens Tie on Senior Day

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's soccer team closed out its 2023 home slate with a scoreless draw vs. Delaware on Saturday afternoon at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks moved to 6-4-4 overall with a 1-3-3 mark in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Blue Hens are now 8-2-5 this season, including a 2-2-3 league record.

Both teams registered 13 shots with UNCW adding 10 before halftime. The Seahawks also held a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Sophomore Ethan Newsome matched her career-high for the third time this year with four shots. Midfielder Gabe Mercer added two shots on goal in 83 minutes of action.

UNCW goalkeeper Jacob Randolph added four saves in his sixth shutout of 2023.

Mercer and Randolph were joined by teammates Omar Aboutaleb, Carter Beaulieu, Pep Casas, Josef Hefele, Michael Morell, Parker Norris, Jaden Strumeier and Cannon Tootle as Seahawks honored in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.

UNCW finished 4-1-2 at UNCW Soccer Stadium this season and averaged 1,038 fans across seven regular season home matches.

The Seahawks continue play on Tuesday at nationally-ranked Georgetown at 2 p.m.
