Women's Tennis Team Enjoys Successful Debut

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior Zoe Huffman won at the top of the lineup to clinch the match as the UNCW women's tennis team cruised past visiting N.C. Central, 5-2, in the spring opener for the Seahawks early Saturday at the UNCW Courts.

The Seahawks claimed the early doubles point and tacked on four singles victories to improve to 9-0 lifetime against the Eagles. NCCU dropped to 1-3 on the young season.

Huffman, from Maiden, N.C., teamed up with fellow senior Anna Daniels at No. 2 doubles to clinch the early point with a 6-4 decision over NCCU's Kennedy Hill and Maria Picazo.

In singles, the Seahawks rolled at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 to take the match. UNCW then took the first three matches off the court in singles, capped by Huffman's 6-4, 6-1, victory over Hill at No. 1 singles for the clincher.

The Seahawks wrap up a two-match home stand to open the spring campaign with a 1 p.m. match against Queens next Saturday, Feb. 4, at the UNCW Courts.
