Heaton, Henry Lift Seahawks Over Panthers

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Goals by UNCW's Madison Henry and Hanna Heaton were all the Seahawks needed for a 2-0 shutout win over High Point at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

UNCW improved its record to 3-2-1 and closed out its three-game homestand with a victory. The Panthers fell to 0-4-2 this year.

The Seahawks recorded a season-high 17 shots, including 11 in the first half, while limiting High Point to five shots.

Henry drilled her second goal of the season in the eighth minute when she booted in a ball that had ricocheted off Panthers goalkeeper Morgan Hairston, who had blocked Henry's first attempt.

Heaton added her first collegiate goal in the 89th minute when she was fed in front of the box by midfielder Morgan Nanni. The Gloucester, Va., native dribbled to her left and found the back of the net, beyond the outstretched arms of Hairston, to ice the game, 2-0.

Seahawk goalkeepers Blair Barefoot and Hanna Wise, who continued to alternate halves played, fashioned their second combined shutout of the season.

UNCW returns to action on the road next Sunday, Sept. 11, at UNC Greensboro. Kick-off from UNCG Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
