WILMINGTON, North Carolina – East Carolina's Annabelle Abbott scored the game's lone goal early in the first half to give the Pirates a 1-0 victory over the UNCW women's soccer team at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.
The Pirates (3-2) have won three straight games and continue their season this weekend at VCU. The Seahawks (2-2-1) conclude this season's first homestand at Noon on Sunday against High Point.
Abbott's goal in the sixth minute came off a cross by ECU's Catherine Holbrook and provided the Pirates a lead they would not relinquish.
UNCW outshot the Pirates, 9-6, with six shots coming in the second half. One of the second-half shots for UNCW was a Kayla Burroughs strike in the 87th minute that ECU goalkeeper Maeve English corralled to protect the lead.
