Seahawks, Eagles Play To Scoreless Draw

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta registered his 21st career shutout as the UNCW men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw at American in Thursday's season opener at Reeves Field.

Both the Seahawks and Eagles start the year with 0-0-1 records following the first match between the schools in 22 years.

Senior forward Cannon Tootle accounted for three of the Seahawks' seven shots. The Eagles were held to three shots.

The Seahawks continue their three-game road swing to begin the season on Sunday at UNC Greensboro. Kick-off from UNCG Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 p.m. The Spartans are the first of five in-state opponents the Seahawks will face this year.

GAME NOTES: UNCW is now 31-22-4 all-time in season openers, including an 11-8-1 record on the road … The Seahawks had four shots on goal … American took a narrow edge in corners, 6-5 … Senior captain Colton Pleasants made his first appearance since Apr. 15, 2021 ... UNCW defender Josef Hefele was ejected after receiving a red card in the 83rd minute … Forward Omar Aboutaleb was also issued a yellow card … Jake Shannon and Perrotta played all 90 minutes.
