Mills, Parrous Push Seahawks Past Royals

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – UNCW used two second-half goals by defenders Chloe Mills and Talia Parrous to open the women's soccer season with a 2-0 victory over Queens at Dickson Field on Thursday evening.

The Seahawks improved to 1-0 on the young season with the shutout win. The Royals, who made their NCAA Division I debut, dropped to 0-1.

Mills netted the first goal of the season in the 50th minute off a corner by redshirt junior Hannah Arostegui. The Raleigh, N.C., native placed the ball perfectly in front of the left post that Mills, who played a team-high 85 minutes, booted in for the eventual game-winning score.

The Seahawks added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute when redshirt junior Grace Guller launched a ball into a crowded box. Standing at the edge of the right post, Parrous leaped and headed-in her sixth career goal to put the contest on ice.

Goalkeepers Blair Barefoot and Hanna Wise each posted a scoreless half for the Seahawks with Wise drawing the start.

The Seahawks continue their three-game road swing at No. 10 North Carolina on Sunday. Kick-off from Dorrance Field will happen at 1 p.m.
